Janwaar Castle is a learning camp with a skatepark at its core. It's a social experiment and the goal is to transform the village of Janwaar into a wealthier and more prosperous place.

Who doesn’t want to walk through such an entrance? Welcome to the homestays in Janwaar!

Currently we have four homestays at Janwaar – single rooms with a bed or a very comfortable charpie, nice matresses, blankets, white linen and a wonderful pillow to lay your head on 🙂 The villagers charge INR 200 per person and night, breakfast and chai included. For each wonderful meal you pay INR 50. And most of them are fully booked – it’s amazing how many people are flooding in!

The additional income helps the villagers a lot – for example at Arun’s place it pays the school fees for his sister Shanti. This is BIG !

The best benefit though really came unexpectedly – even though it might be very obvious. No one of us had thought about it before. Anveer was saying yesterday: “I think one of the best things that have come out of this homestay arrangement is the interaction with the guests.

Michael (a volunteer at Janwaar Castle for 5 weeks) is so comfortable at Arun’s place that it’s unbelievable. Even the family loves him. They’re all sharing meals and so much coversation. Best way to introduce healthy exposure to Janwaar. I love that he helped Arun make a facebook account.

Yeterday I heard loud Priyanka, Vikram and Ahmer (a journalist from Delhi who is currently staying in Janwaar for a reportage) also talking about how Ahmer would teach them to use a computer 🙂

Great stuff. I felt very happy to hear and wanted to share with you guys!”

Yes, indeed this is awesome! A new way of volunteering, learning and personal mentoring 🙂
